PIANO AND VIOLIN LESSONS
Instrumental lessons are available from age 5 upwards!
All standards from beginner to diploma are taught.
Standard lessons are booked in advance with a regular weekly time-slot allocated per pupil.
Beginner lessons are 30 minutes. More advanced students may need 45 - 60 minutes.
Discounts are available for lessons of more than 30 minutes and for families who attend two or more 30 minute lessons per week.
Depending on the level of the student, the following are incorporated into the lessons:
Technique (scales and studies)
Duets with the teacher
Creativity: elementary composing and arranging
Written music theory
Music games (educational!)
Piano students need a piano. Keyboards are fine to start with if they have a sensitive touch and at least three octaves. Very young pupils with small hands may need a sized-down keyboard.
Violin students require a properly-sized violin, shoulder pad and rosin. Means to tune, i.e. piano, tuning pipes or tuning fork is also recommended.
Music books, which depend on the level of the pupil, are also needed.
STUDENT RECITAL OPPORTUNITIES
From time to time I organise student recitals to which parents are invited.
This gives pupils a chance to play on a beautiful Steinway grand piano and experience the delight of giving music for others to enjoy.
It is also a sociable occasion!
Participation is optional!
Our next recitals will be:
31st May 2020; 'Preparation for Exams' recital
21st June 2020; 'Beethoven recital and appreciation afternoon'
During the summer holidays, I offer the chance to attend a summer school. This takes place in the afternoons of one week.
The summer school gives pupils the opportunity to play ensembles with other students, and sometimes to engage in drama skills.
It also provides a platform to learn elements of music with group resources.
There is a final day performance to which parents and guests are warmly invited!
Please visit the YouTube channel to view this year's performance!
This year's Summer School is scheduled for 20 - 24 July 2020 from 1400 - 1700. The theme this year is 'The Carnival of the Animals' by Camille Saint-Saens. The concert will take place on 24 July.
All children age 6-15 who can play an instrument (even at beginner level) are welcome to apply.
Bookings are now being taken! Please contact me if you are interested!
Exams are optional!
The goal is to enjoy playing and not feel pressurised to perform or to be examined.
If taken, pupils are entered for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exams.
